During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States period, Xiongqu, the king of Chu State, divided his son Xiong Hong to Ezhou (E Region) as the king of Ezhou to build the city of E. This is the origin that Hubei is named "E" for short. In 221 AD, Sun Quan, the king of Wu State, claimed himself emperor here, and named the place Wuchang, which means "using military force to secure prosperity", therefore Ezhou is also known as "the ancient capital of King Wu". 2021 marks the 1,800 anniversary of Sun Quan naming Wuchang as the capital, building the city of Wuchang and claiming himself King Wu. Ezhou has a profound history and rich culture, and is home to many traces of the eminent monk Huiyuansenchan, the famous anti-Jin general Yue Fei, the famous scholars of many dynasties such as Tao Kan, Li Bai, Su Shi, Ouyang Xiu, Wang Anshi, Lu you, Peng Yulin and Zhang Zhidong, as they preached a sermon, practiced martial arts, study literature, went on hunting, held banquets, stayed in summer resorts and lived in seclusion.
